Grow Portland supports schools and communities by facilitating hands-on garden experiences that foster connections to food, nature and each other.

Spring 2024 Program Highlights:

  • Students released mason bees in school gardens

  • Corporate groups and families helped with soil rehab projects at 4 schools gardens thanks to a grant from East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District

  • Two Grow Portland staff attended the national School Garden Support Organization conference in San Diego, CA.

  • Rose City Park Elementary held their first farm to cafeteria culturally-specific tasting session thanks to a grant from the Oregon Department of Education.

  • We started our third year of programming with the residents at Providence ElderPlace Irvington Village.

  • Our board and staff are in the final stages of completing our first ever Strategic Plan.


Looking ahead:

  • We are thrilled to welcome 3 local college interns joining our team for the summer!

  • We will be returning to David Douglas School District partner schools for summer school enrichment programming.

  • We are looking for new Cultivators to join our Monthly Donor program to help sustain programs.

Each year, literally hundreds of people keep over 60,000 square feet of gardens and outdoor spaces thriving by volunteering with Grow Portland. Do you want to help school gardens take off and thrive? Join us for Grow Portland work parties, happening regularly at all 14 of our partner schools. We'll be mulching pathways, rebuilding raised beds, installing irrigation and so much more. Or, if your talents include more strategy than dirt, yet you share a passion for our work, consider joining the team as a member of our Board of Directors. Commitment is approx. 2-4 hours monthly (meetings every other month with some committee work in between). We are always on the lookout for diverse skills and experience to offer perspectives and direction to what we do and how we do it.
